Eming didn't reset Area Meet schedule

THE local government unit (LGU) of Kananga town reacted to the charge of Rep. Lucy Marie Torres-Gomez’s camp that Mayor Elmer C. Codilla caused the rescheduling of a district-wide sporting event because he didn’t wanted the congresswoman’s name to be included in the program.
The Area IV Athletic Competition was originally scheduled on Sept. 22-24 but was reset on Sept. 29-Oct. 1. Councilor Godfrey O. Capanas, chairman of the committee on education clarified that the games were rescheduled after the National Career Assessment Exam held on Sept. 28.
Reacting to a newspaper report, Capanas said it is only the Department Education (DepEd) that can reschedule the meet being the organizer and not the LGU. The Mayor’s Office released a statement saying that instead of engaging politics, the LGU focused its time and effort preparing for the event by constructing a new stage, and improving the athletic grounds, sports facilities and billeting areas.
“The local administration chose to work hard in helping the DepEd and the schools of this town rather than engaging in early politics. To our dismay, other camps would rather turn the said activity into a political display and early campaigning by installing large tarpaulins with pictures of politicians and a probable candidate instead of helping make the activity successful,” the statement said. by Gerardo C. Reyes, Jr.
